Lavon Andrew Newberry

Mr. Lavon Andrew Newberry, 83, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, at his home. He was born June 1, 1940, in Alleghany County, NC to the late John Andrew Newberry and Zenna Bell Phipps Newberry. Lavon retired from Vulcan Materials after 50 years of service. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Smith Newberry; three brothers, Cecil Ray Newberry, Edwin Gayle Osborne, and Edward Guy Osborne; and one sister, Mary Ruth Woods. He is survived by his son Donald Andrew Newberry (Michael Dean Keene); stepson, Marty Whitaker; two grandsons, Steven Andrew Newberry and Justin Max Newberry; one step granddaughter; two great granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; and special care givers, David Brown (Helen) and Billy Whitt. A funeral service will be conducted 12pm Monday, April 29, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Interment will be held at 3pm Monday, April 29, 2024, at South Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Piney Creek, NC. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 11am Monday, April 29, 2024.
