On Monday, January 31st 2022 a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend transition to his new life. Mr. LaVerne “Big Verne” Shuler was born in Orangeburg, SC on September 24, 1958 to the late Hezekiah and Lurline Shuler.
He was raised in Winston-Salem, NC and attended Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Parkland High School in ‘74 and then he served in the US Navy in ‘84.
He was jack of all trades, He loved to cook, grill, go camping, working, watching the race, boxing and football. His favorite teams were the Oakland Raiders and Clemson Tigers. He was fun person to be around. There was never a dull moment in his presence.
He preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Johnnie Lee Shuler, Claude Shuler, and sister-in-law Frances R. Shuler.
LaVerne is survived by his wife, Ella Jackson Shuler; four children, LaVerne L. Shuler Jr., Chastity (Christopher) Donathan, Samantha Shuler, Shavone (Markiss) Hines; Eight grandchildren, Aiyana Shuler, Jamir Huntley, Aubri Donathan, Bella Donathan, Chrislynn Donathan, Shamari Hines, Amarien Hines, Amaura Hines; two brothers, Bennie (Frances) Shuler, Ulysses (Albertina) Shuler; two nieces, Teaquoise (Greg) Lindsay, all of the city, Adrianne (Eric) Thompson-Toney of Baltimore, MD.; one great niece Bria Lindsay; one great nephew Brandon Lindsay; four devoted cousins, Lamar Mack, Eric Mack, Ann Mack, of Orangeburg, SC and Vandy ”Rick” Mintz of Atlanta, GA; and a host of relatives and friends.
