With loved ones by her side, Edna Mauney peacefully transitioned from this earth to join her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Monday, April 26, 2021, following a brave battle with dementia. She was born to the late John and Zella Waller on February 10, 1925 in Cabarrus County, NC. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Marion Mauney, Jr., eleven siblings, and her great grandson, Alan Beck. She is survived by her son Eddie Ray Lynch (Ginger), daughter Janet Rose Staton (Dennis), daughter and devoted caregiver Kristina Gail Tozer (Mike), and granddaughter Courtney Thomas (Jeff) whom Edna raised as one of her own; granddaughters Amy Beck and Jennifer Tozer (fiancé Ryan Senerth), grandson Alex Tozer, great-granddaughters Taylor Beck (fiancé Joel), Erin Beck (fiancé Nick), and Annsley Thomas; great-grandsons Jake and Evan Thomas, great-great granddaughters Charlie and Sailor Beck (mother Nina Beck), and many nieces and nephews.
Lovingly known as “E” to many, Edna will forever be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, wife, and dear friend. Edna was a wonderful servant of the Lord and devout member of College Park Baptist Church. She was a vibrant soul who modeled selflessness, always putting the needs of others first. She experienced her greatest joy when doing for others. Edna inspired and touched the lives of so many, leaving an unforgettable imprint in their hearts and minds. The strength of her spirit, kindness of her heart, unconditional love she so freely gave, and her radiant smile that lit up the room will forever be her legacy. That legacy will live on inside the souls of all who met, knew, and loved her.
During her 96 years, Edna was richly blessed with good health, strong family, and a spirit of adventure. Shopping, gardening, traveling, bird watching, and eating out for Saturday breakfast were some of her favorite things to do. Edna’s family was the center of her heart, as she was the center of theirs. Some of the family’s favorite pastimes were enjoyed over holiday meals at her home with her famous potato salad, deviled eggs, chicken casserole, and a visit on her back porch. For over 60 years, Edna worked as a talented beautician from the salon in her home, allowing her to always be close to family. As a true testament to her boundless energy, at the young age of 90, Edna still had one client who came to have her hair done on Fridays. Edna talked to family members several times a day. It was not uncommon when family called to check in on her for Edna to report that she had been blowing leaves, vacuuming the steps, pulling yard waste up to the street, driving herself to the store or trimming the bushes, all at the age of 94!
Following a battle with the flu in early 2019, Edna was unable to return to her home. Her loving daughter, Gail, opened her home to care for her mother providing a nurturing and compassionate environment. After several months in her daughter’s care, Edna was moved to Homestead Hills in Winston-Salem for rehabilitation and physical therapy. She returned to live with her daughter Gail in November 2020, where she remained until her time of death.
