Laura Montgomery Whitman, 64, of Pfafftown, passed away unexpectedly at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020. She was predeceased by her parents, Hassel A. and Stella S. Montgomery, and husband, James (Jimmy) Whitman. Leaving to cherish in her memory are her daughter Wendy Whitman and husband Mitchell Gray of Pfafftown, sisters Fonda Gail (Pete) Cecile, of North Wilkesboro, Kathy Flinchum, of Walnut Cove, Jan Montgomery-Culler, of Tobaccoville, and brother Claude Daniel Montgomery, Sr. (Vicki), of Pfafftown. Laura is also lovingly survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She attended Mount Tabor High School and was a life-long animal lover, having cared for numerous dogs and cats during her life, including a short time as a breeder of Dalmatians. She was an excellent cook, preparing many of her well-known dishes from scratch. The family requests that memorials be made in her honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org). No formal services will be held at this time. The family will be holding a private celebration of life gathering. The family would like to thank members of the Old Richmond Volunteer Fire Department, Forsyth County Emergency Services and the hospital staff at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for the care they provided. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Rural Hall Chapel is graciously and respectfully servicing the Whitman Family.
