Larry Calvin York

Larry Calvin York, beloved son of the late Guy Hampton York and Ada Newsome York, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Larry was born July 2, 1948 in Asheboro, NC, where he graduated from Asheboro High School in 1966. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the Naval Reserves. Larry graduated from Elon College in 1974, and then began his career with the Department of the Veteran's Affairs until his retirement in 2003. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin E. York, a sister, Helen York King, and his step-mother, Catherine York. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Donna Kimsey York of the home; Father-in-law, Broughton J. Kimsey of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law, Judith K. Tuttle of South Carolina; two brothers, Guy E. York and wife Nancy of Asheboro, Vaughn M. York and wife Debbie of High Point; a sister, Millie York Robbins of Asheboro, and many nieces, nephews, and his good and loyal friend and golf buddy, Sam Boger. Larry was a great sports fan, especially of golf, which he loved playing and laughing with his many friends. He loved animals and helped find good and loving homes for many homeless dogs. He especially loved his little Yorkie, ""Lily"". He and his wife loved to travel and see new places and meet new people. Everyone who knew him will miss his smile and his laughter. Larry has spent the last 3 ½ years of his life at Brighton Gardens in the Reminiscent Unit. His wife would like to thank the staff and all of the caregivers for the wonderful loving care given to him. You made him part of your family and always treated him with such love and kindness and allowed him to maintain his dignity. He loved you as much as you loved him. Words cannot express my gratitude, Bless you all. A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro at 2:00pm, with the Rev. David Spaulding officiating. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
