Larry Kenneth Ham waited 1331 days to be eternally re-united with the love of his life, Debra Ham. His prayers to be able to talk to her again were answered on November 6, 2023, when he passed peacefully while surrounded by his family. We can’t be sure what Deb said when Larry called out to her as soon as he passed, but we are pretty sure it went something like this, “I hear what you are saying Larry”.
Larry Kenneth Ham, or the “Great L” as he jokingly referred to himself, was born on November……..20th………..1900…….. and …………..….47. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lelia Hudson and Charles, “Pete” Ham Jr; his brother, Charlie; and his beloved wife, Debra Lineback Ham. Left to cherish his memories and keep them alive are his daughter, Kimberly Dunn and husband David; his grandchildren, who all called him “Poppy” and were his pride and joy who he loved dearly, Christopher (Taylor) Dunn, Reagan (Bryson) Brady, Connor Dunn, Carson Dunn and Ivan Dunn; and his cousin, Glenn Hart, who was especially close to Larry as they were lifelong friends and fishing buddies.
Larry had a way about him, he was consistent all the way to the very end and that meant doing it his way. To know him well was to love him and to love him you had to know him well. He was intelligent, quick witted, a great builder and wood worker, a first-class fisherman and a lover of good food and family time. He had a way to make you laugh that we will all miss, and we know why his friends called him “Hambone”. Trips to get Christmas trees, family get togethers, football games watching his grandsons, talks about anything and everything with his granddaughter Reagan, and good meals were just a few of his very favorite things. Larry was tough as nails, he never gave up, always answered the bell when it rang and put up one heck of a fight all the way to the very end. We are so proud of you; we miss you already and the reality of a world without you is a bit dimmer. Even though it hurts; we will do what you asked and that was to “make memories and love each other”. Rest in Peace Poppy, we won’t ever forget you!
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at Trinity Methodist Church by Rev. Doug Miller and Pastor John Nelson on Monday, November 13th at 10:00 AM, with a meal and visitation to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Trinity Methodist Church, 3819 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 , as Deb and Larry both loved their church friends and the fellowship.
At a date to be determined, a celebration of life will be held for close friends and family where many of Larry’s favorite foods, like Pepsi Colas, McDonald’s cheeseburgers, cornbread and buttermilk, fatback, grape leaf pickles, chocolate shakes, and Oreo cookies will be enjoyed by all who have the cholesterol levels to get away with it. We can all share a Larry story or two or three and celebrate the Great L together in a get together he would have enjoyed with good food and fellowship.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the Ham family.
