Mr. Larry Russell Gregory, 71, of Mocksville, passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2022. He was born on July 28, 1950 in Winston-Salem to the late William Earl “Scotty” Gregory and Mary Edra Green. He is survived by his wife, Stacy, of 38 years; his adopted daughter, Missy Taylor (Jim); son, Michael (Sarah); daughter, Savanna Click (Nathan); stepchildren, Tracy Fuquay and Michael Strickland (Beth); grandchildren, Erica Mabe (Patrick), Amber Groce (Jody), JD Mabe (LeighAnne), Bradley Mabe (Kristen), Coty Strickland, Heather Garland (Jake), Lisa Strickland (Josh), Marissa Roberts, Scotty Blankinship, Page Fuquay, Britney Blankinship, Anna Taylor, Keli Taylor, Daylin Click, Jacob Gregory, Mikayla Click, Aiden Cadmen, Deacon Click, and Elizabeth Click; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Bill (Shirley), Ron (Linda), Jerry, and Richard; sister, Barbara; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Posie “Bud” Beck; sister-in-law, Judy Gregory; former brother-in-law, Alonzo Hester; and nephew, Russell Gregory.
Mr. Gregory was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He was an infantryman and cook. After his military service, he worked at RJ Reynolds Tobacco company for 22 years then retired and started a furniture refinishing business, Davie Refinishing, until he medically retired in 2002.
Mr. Gregory was an avid fisherman, loved hunting and shooting, and raising chickens and birds. He also loved gardening and woodworking, and made many beautiful pieces of furniture, walking canes, and bird houses. He was an excellent artist as well. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings playing cards, going on fishing trips, and being in nature. He was gentle, loving, and always willing to serve others. He was a friend to all and was known as the peacemaker among his siblings.
Mr. Gregory was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was always willing to serve anyone in need. He served those in his family, his community, and his church family. His loving spirit will be missed among all his friends and family.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Clemmons with Bishop Kevin Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
