Larry Dennis Gillenwater, Sr.

Mr. Larry Dennis Gillenwater, Sr., 68, went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2008. He was born July 23, 1940 in Wyoming County, West Virginia to the late Cecil D. Gillenwater and Katherine A. Hanbury. He was also preceded in death by his half-brother Isaac Hanbury of Virginia. Mr. Gillenwater is survived by his wife of 47 years, Liliane F. Gillenwater of the home; Children: Stella Gillenwater of Winston-Salem, Linda Gillenwater of Winston-Salem, Diana (Jeff) Hodges of East Bend, Larry (Cathy) Gillenwater, Jr. of East Bend, Shane (Penny) Gillenwater of Yadkinville, Shanna Gillenwater of Winston-Salem and Luke Gillenwater of Winston-Salem; Grandchildren: Jeffrey Hodges, Jr., Wesley Gillenwater, Misti Gillenwater, Cory Gillenwater, Megan Gillenwater, Anna Gillenwater and soon to be granddaughter Rachel Gillenwater; A half-sister Patricia Nelson of Virginia; Two sisters-in-law, Monique Poitou of Blois, France and Sylvie Briatte of Paris, France and their families; also numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Gillenwater was a veteran of the U.S. Army and so loved his country. He was long time owner and operator of Home Appliance Service, during which time he developed many meaningful relationships. Mr. Gillenwater was also retired from Piedmont Natural Gas Company where he worked for 35 years. Mr. Gillenwater coached soccer for two of his sons and a daughter and so loved the sport. He also loved aviation and took that love to the skies when he flew a sailplane. He loved the mountains and shared that love with his wife and children through many memorable camping trips. Mr. Gillenwater's latest passion was his grandchildren that he so dearly loved and was so proud of. Larry touched so many lives and will be surely missed, but his legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren.--Father - You have created memories that have been embedded into the minds of those who love you. The love that you have unselfishly shared with your family and friends will surround all the memories that will live forever within them. Jay Burcham will officiate the service. Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, NC.
