Larry Allen, 63, of Lexington, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born to the late Troy Allen and Merle Ashcroft Allen on October 13, 1960, in Summit County, Ohio. Larry was a direct decedent of James Allen, the first Allen to come to America. In his early years, Larry had many accomplishments such as being the sixth-grade captain of safety patrol, served on the student council board for both seventh and eighth grade. He played football and graduated from the Oceana High School class of 1979. Larry was formerly a reporter for the Oceana Sun. He was the 1988 President of the Oceana Jaycees and as well as the 1988 recipient of the U.S. Jaycees Charles Kulp Memorial Award, recognizing the top 80-chapter presidents in the US Baptist faith. Larry worked for the Davidson County Commissioner Office from 1986 – 88. Currently serving a 20-year appointment by the President to the Davidson County Selective Service Board; first appointed in 2018. He served on the Davidson County Republican Party for many years and often hosted the Carolina Vintage Comic Con. In his free time, he enjoyed comic book collecting, history, traveling, football, and fishing. Although most of all he deeply loved his family and the values it stood for. Larry always believed in his fellow man motto: Be good to somebody. Larry is survived by his loving wife of many years, Robin Whitley Allen; daughters, Laura Peddycord; and Jennifer Riddle; brother, Troy “Pat” Allen; sister, Nadine Parks (James); grandchildren, Kaleb Peddycord, Alexis Eaves, Devon Eaves, Tinley Riddle, and Hunter Riddle; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Currytown Baptist Church. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm before the service. Officiating the service will be Pastor Mike McDaniel. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Pastors Pantry of Davidson County at 307 N State St, Lexington, NC 27292.
