Lamar Keith Raker

WINSTON-SALEM, NC-Mr. Lamar Keith Raker, 87, of Winston-Salem, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great grandfather, was welcomed into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Raker was born on January 14, 1928, in Forsyth County, NC to the late Henry Lindsay Raker and Phoebe Padgett Raker. Lamar retired from AT&T after 38 years of service. His hobbies included bowling, coaching the church softball team and playing golf. He enjoyed all sports but especially loved watching football, Atlanta Braves baseball and Wake Forest basketball, with Duke a close second. Lamar served in many church leadership capacities at Southminster Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School long after his vision prevented him from reading the scripture himself. At the time of his passing he was a member of Advent Moravian Church where he attended until his health no longer permitted. He was a gentle soul who always had a kind word and loving nature towards all who were blessed to know him. In addition to his parents, Mr. Raker was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer Raker, Paul Raker, Horace Raker, Bradley Raker and Ike Raker; and two sisters, Florida Raker Joyce and Edna Raker Talley. Those left to praise God for his life are his wife of 66 years, Dorathy ""Dot"" Martin Raker of the home; a daughter, Shirley Raker Kotofsky of Wallburg, NC; one granddaughter, Sharon Kotofsky Smith (Shawn) of Wallburg, NC; great-grandchildren, Skyler Smith (Hope), Sterling Smith and Savannah Smith, all of Wallburg, NC; and two great-great-grandchildren, Leah Marie and Kinley Faith, both of Wallburg, NC. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Advent Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Timothy G. Sapp officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. We, his family, rejoice in the knowledge that he now rests in the Arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As he stands among the angels and those who have gone on before him, he will hear the words that mean more to him than the world could imagine, ""Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the Joy of the Lord."" The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
