Konstantinos 'Gus' Stogias

Konstantinos ""Gus"" Stogias, 68, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013. He suffered a massive heart attack while doing what he loved most working on his fruit trees and backyard landscape. Gus was born in the central mountains of Greece, in the village of Makrakomi, on February 13, 1945. He was the fourth born of six children, the son of the late Vasilios and Vasiliki Stogias. In 1972, at the age of 27, Gus traveled to America to reunite with his youngest and only sister, Effie Stogias Rizos, who lived in the small town of Beaver Falls, PA where he worked learning the furniture trade. In 1977, he returned back to his homeland of Greece to marry the love of his life, Maria Karaiskos,. Together they moved to Winston-Salem, NC where they began their legacy and were blessed with two beautiful daughters. In 1986, with lots of hard work and dedication, Gus established the Liberty Family Restaurant in Lewisville, NC where, 27 years later, it remains a landmark of the town. From there on after, he opened two other restaurants which are still open and operating, the North Point Grill and Southern Family Restaurant. Gus was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Winston-Salem. He was a dedicated, warm-hearted, and caring man who loved his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Maria Karaiskos Stogias; 2 daughters, Bessie Stogias of Lewisville and Stasie Kanellos, and her husband John Kanellos, of Charlotte, NC; and 2 grandchildren, Athan and Nia Kanellos; as well as his brothers, George Stogias, John Stogias, Demetrios Stogias and Panagiotis Stogias of Greece; a sister, Effie Rizos of Kernersville; Gus' in-laws, Panagiotis and Anastasia Karaiskos of Makrakomi, Greece, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. May his memory be Eternal. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 PM Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, with a Trisagion service at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 18th, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC.
