Kimberly Varner Gregg

The precious and beautiful Kimberly Jo Varner Gregg, 63, passed away during the final hour of February 27, 2025, peacefully in her home in Winston-Salem, NC, with loving family by her side.

Born on May 21, 1961 in Cleveland TN, Kimberly (Kim) graduated from Charleston (Tennessee) High School in 1979. She continued to live in the Cleveland area until she married the love of her life, Michael “Mike” Gregg, in 1985 and they moved to Wilkesboro, NC. Three years later they moved to Winston-Salem, NC with their two young sons. Once her sons were both in elementary school she decided to attend college to get her elementary teaching degree. She always cherished being around and working with young children. She was a public school teacher for over 20 years in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County (Walkertown Elem. & Southeast Middle) and Guilford County (McLeansville Elem., Bluford STEM Academy, Northwood Elem.) School Systems, until her retirement in 2023.

A more caring, thoughtful, and beautiful soul you could not hope to find on this earth. Kim cherished every moment spent with friends and family, going on hikes, riding motorcycles, going to wine tastings, annual beach trips with her teacher friends, spending time with her grandchildren (she loved her babies), traveling and enjoying nature.

Kim was of the Christian faith and placed her hope for eternal salvation in Jesus Christ. Her testimony was tenderness, love and kindness. Kim was a giver, not a taker.

Kim faced the disease that took her from us with courage, grace, and steadfastness that is to be admired. While it robbed her of her health and life, it did not defeat her love and spirit. Her physical presence on the earth will be missed.

Kim is survived by her husband, Mike, of Winston Salem, who has and will continue to cherish her until his last breath; sons Jamie (Katie) Gregg of Wake Forest, NC and Nathan (Rachel) Gregg of Mooresville, NC; six wonderful grandchildren—Reese, Millie, Adelina, Dawson, Grayson, and Arabella; father James Edward Varner of Ocoee, TN; and sister Vicki (Jack) Cavett of Ocoee, TN; nephews Jackie Cavett and Jason Cavett both of Bradley County TN; In-laws Fred and Virginia Gregg of Charleston, TN. Kim also leaves many other loving family members and special friends. Kim was predeceased by her mother Jo Ella Varner and brothers James Varner and Gene Varner.

At this time, a service and visitation are not planned, but a Celebration of Life gathering will be arranged at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please go out and live life fully, hug those you love, be nice to and show empathy to those who may have wronged you, and spread positivity in hopes of making the world a better place.
