Kenneth Charles Whapham

Mr. Kenneth Charles Whapham, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born November 29, 1926 in Brighton, England to Charles Harvey and Doris Whapham. Mr. Whapham was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church. He grew up in England and Burma, India until the war broke out and then he moved back to England. He was a veteran of the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 and met a gentleman in New York who gave him a card about a little upstart company called Piedmont Airlines in Winston-Salem. He met Tom Davis and was hired immediately. He retired from Piedmont Airlines as Chief Industrial Engineer of Maintenance Planning with 37 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife of 21 years, Patricia Marriott Whapham. Surviving is his loving wife of 39 years, Annie Tucker Whapham of the home; two sons, Kenneth Clay Whapham and wife Joni of Winston-Salem and Philip Charles Whapham and wife Vickie of Kernersville; grandchildren, Jeremy Brent Whapham and wife Kellyann, Jennifer Brianne Whapham, Justin Charles Whapham and Lauren Patricia Whapham; a special nephew, Torrey Tucker; niece, Tina Compton and husband Russell and children, Megan and Haley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29th at Friedberg Moravian Church with the Rev. Jimmy Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park.
