Kenneth Chandler Mason

Kenneth Chandler Mason passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on October 22, 2014. He was born on June 14, 1932 to Paul C. Mason and Maver D. Mason in Macon County, NC. Kenneth proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he had a second career with the US Postal Service. His servant's heart extended to the community where he was active in the Masonic Lodge, Lion's Club, Shriners, and Vietnam Veterans reunions. An avid outdoorsman, Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and sports. And he could fix almost anything. Most of all, Kenneth was a devoted family man and a good friend. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his first wife, Elisabeth W. Mason. Survivors include his loving wife of 20 years, Virginia A. Mason; children, Kenneth, M. Mason, David L. Mason, John Thomas Benbow, III, Sue Cantrell, and William E. Benbow; grandchildren, Ryan K. Mason, Michelle Mason Pace, Keegan T. Mason, and Jessi Benbow; 5 great grandchildren; as well as brothers, Furman E. Mason, Douglas L. Mason; and a sister, Pauline Henry. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Darren Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Friedberg Moravian Church Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Midway Lions Club, PO Box 1120, Welcome, NC 27374.
