Kenneth Lawrence Horton, Jr.

Mr. Kenneth Lawrence Horton, Jr., 86, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, November 8, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born August 17, 1924 to Kenneth Lawrence Horton, Sr. and Pearl Henderson Horton in Wake County where he was raised. Mr. Horton was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 8th Army Airforce as a nosegunner and bombardier in a B-17 bomber. He loved tennis, was a wonderful family man, a devoted husband and a dedicated state employee with the N.C. Department of Transportation. He was a professional engineer and graduated from N.C. State University in 1949. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Merle Rahn Horton; a son, Kenneth Lawrence Horton III and wife Donna; two grandchildren, Laura Lee and Hugh Horton; one step granddaughter, Shannon Ferrell; two great grandchildren, Nicole and Michael; one step great grandson, Kane; and a special dog, Gracie. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church with Dr. Joseph Ward officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh. The family will also receive friends in Winston-Salem from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 10 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
