Kay E. DeGraw of Lewisville passed away on May 13, 2013 after succumbing to a 23 year battle with breast cancer. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to George and Elizabeth Morris. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, retired attorney, William R. DeGraw, Jr., daughter Jennifer S. DeGraw, Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, daughter Lauren DeGraw Armstrong, currently pursuing a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy at East Carolina University, and son-in-law M. Christopher Armstrong, a rising second year student at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Kay is also survived by Dr. Martin and Denise DeGraw, and son Dylan of New Bern. Kay attended Cornell University and graduated in 1970, majoring in Mathematics. She worked for Wachovia Bank & Trust for 10 years in systems programming and technical support. An accomplished photographer and acrylic and watercolor artist, Kay also loved to travel to exotic locales such as Kenya, Ecuador, and Guatemala. She was a devoted mother, loving wife, and loyal friend. Her warm smile, sense of fairness, positive attitude, and penetrating wit were admired by all who knew her. Kay's strength and spirit were an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday May 17 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem.
