Katie Wright Gilbert, 101, of Germanton, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015.
Katie was born May 26, 1914 in Surry County to the late Albert and Mary Tickle Wright. In 1941, Katie began entering her canned and baked goods in the Dixie Classic Fair and that began a long tradition of winning over the years there, as well as the Stokes County Fair and NC State Fair. During her lifetime, she won over 2,000 ribbons for her culinary talents. Katie was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and leaves behind many friends who will miss her greatly. In addition to her parents, Katie was predeceased by her husband, Asa Ladusau, husband, Rev. Peter R. Gilbert, two sisters and three brothers.
Katie is survived by her daughter, Mary Whitley; stepchildren, E. Reid Gilbert and Evelyn Gottenstrater (William); grandson, Anthony Whitley; granddaughter, Carla White (Steve); great-granddaughters, Amanda Berrier (Steven) and Sandra White; great-great-grandchildren, Kira and Hunter Berrier and Jillianne and Luke Burrow; step-granddaughter, Mechele Stoltz (Benny); and a host of loving grand, great and great-great stepgrandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at Bethany Baptist Church, 600 Old Hollow Road, Winston-Salem. A celebration of Katie's life will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 1 pm at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Stamey and Pastor Mark Blair officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
