Kathryn Green Pierce

I, Kathryn Green Pierce, departed this world on June 22, 2015 following a life filled with God's grace and blessings. God gave me the precious gift of life on December 9, 1925 and entrusted me into the loving care of my parents, Isaac Andrew (Bob) Green and Mary Maude Shermer Green. 1925 was a vintage year. Winston-Salem and surrounding areas were always my home. I was raised by my parents, but with the loving help of my precious Mawmaw (Bessie Davis Shermer), and grew up surrounded by a host of loving aunts, uncles and cousins, all of whom I adored.

I grew up as the only child of Maude and Bob Green. Then my dear little sister who survives me, Jeanne Green Foster, came along when I was in my late teens. She and her husband Dean Foster of Advance, NC have shown me so much love and generosity for which I am eternally grateful.

Memories of my childhood are filled with playmates, school chums, fun times at Crystal Lake, family reunions in Wilkes County, vacations at the beach, my Daddy teaching me to ride my bike and Sunday rides in the country. I took voice lessons from Hortense Pease. Her students were on the radio on Saturday mornings and I felt like a radio ""star."" I attended Central School near Old Salem and later attended Reynolds High School and then graduated from Gray High School.

I married my high school sweetheart, Stanley C. Pierce, who was the captain of the Gray High School football team and a star player. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and went off to serve his country in World War II rather than going on to play college football. He preceded me in death on September 6, 1992. In addition to my sister, I am survived by my two daughters, Sandra Pierce Brooks (Steve) of Oak Ridge, NC and Kathy Pierce Phillips (Mike) of Advance, NC; by grandsons Clay Dyson (Dana) of Advance, NC and Scott Dyson (Amy) of Mooresville, NC; by granddaughters Beth Webster (John) of Mooresville, NC, Shana Wright (Andrew) of Winston-Salem, NC and Lindsey Deitz (Dustin) of Fletcher, NC. I have also been blessed with 10 great grandchildren and a great, great grandchild who is on the way. Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow!

Having lived for over two decades as a widow, I have been blessed with the love and support of family, friends and my church family at Calvary Baptist. A special thanks and a heart full of love to my two daughters who were always there when I needed them.

Life is a priceless gift from God. He lovingly granted me forgiveness, eternal life and the joy made possible by knowing His son, Jesus Christ. That joyful spirit has remained with me regardless of circumstances. I reluctantly give up this life, but I know the best is yet to come. According to God's inspired word, ""No eye has seen, no ear has heard and no mind has conceived of what God has in store for those who love Him.""

Kathryn's daughters, Sandra and Kathy, would like to thank the nursing staff, assistants and administrators at Asbury Place Assisted Living in Arbor Acres for the 2 ½ years of loving and exceptional care our Mother received. She enjoyed peace, happiness and independence there and to quote Mom, ""I'm as happy as a pup."" Thank you also to Julie, the PA in Dr. Herman's office; to Mom's primary care physician for many years, Dr. Richard Marx and his nurse, Kathy, and to her cardiologist, Dr. Davidson H. Givens. We are eternally grateful for the quality care these dedicated professionals gave our Mom, which allowed her to enjoy these last years with her family. Finally, thanks to Hospice for assisting in the care and comfort given to our Mom in her last days.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Rd., Winston-Salem, NC with Pastor Gary Byrum officiating. Kathryn's friends and family are invited to come and celebrate a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Salvation Army, P.O.
