Kathryn Mcgee

Mattie Kathryn Hauser McGee, 100, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at SECU Hospice Care Center in Yadkinville. Kathryn lived the past several years at Priddy Manor in King. She was born on February 26, 1917, to Henry W. and Blanche Kirby Hauser. She graduated from King High School in 1935, and was a lifelong resident of the Tobaccoville and King area. Kathryn worked as a national defense industry employee for National Carbon Co. and then for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 36 years. Upon retirement, she and her husband continued to live in Tobaccoville and loved participating in community and family events. She was a community historian who recited past events in detail and was the fashion icon for the family. She and her husband William C. McGee shared 64 years of marriage before his death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, W. Lauriston Hauser (wife Wilma) and Donald G. Hauser (wife Irene); and one bother-in-law, Clyde M. Browder. Surviving are one son, William C. McGee, Jr. (wife Diane); two grandchildren, William H. McGee (wife Denise) and Todd A. McGee (wife Rita); five great-grandchildren, Will McGee, Ellis Henry McGee, Ethan McGee, Maddy McGee, and Jax McGee. Also surviving are one sister, Dorothy H. Browder, several nieces and nephews spanning succeeding generations, cousins, and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Monday, January 22, 2018, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jerry Hall, Billie and Kevin Kennedy, Barbara Adams, and Dorothy Browder for all of their love, help, and support during Kathryn's period of declining health and special needs.
