Kathryn Collins Coe

Born in 1921 in Winston-Salem Kathryn (Kay) Coe passed away in her sleep Friday in Atlanta. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Kay grew up in Lexington and Winston-Salem. She is the daughter of the late Harry Lee, Sr. and Blye Lewellyn Collins of Winston-Salem. Kay was married to the late Melvin Coe, Sr., a civil engineer with Southern Railroad and is survived by her son, Mel, Jr. and daughter-in-law LeA, in Atlanta; sister Evelyn Bodsford widow of Claude Bodsford; sister-in-law Frances Collins widow of Harry Lee Collins, Jr.; sister-in-law Avenell S. King, widow of Woodrow King all from the Winston-Salem area; and numerous nephews, nieces and grand nephews and grand nieces who called her ""Sissie"". Kay and her husband Melvin were actively involved in the chartering and development of the First Moravian Church of Georgia. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, in Virginia, where she served as Worthy Matron. She held the office of Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine in Winston-Salem. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. In Atlanta, Kay had a significant influence on the lives of young women serving as a chapter advisor for the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Kay was also active with the Southern Railroad Lady's Club in Winston. She played golf and was an avid bridge player. She attended Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta with her son and daughter-in-law. A time with and for the family will be from 6p - 8p on Monday, February 13th at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. Graveside services will be at 2p on Tuesday, February 14th at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, Rev. Jack Vaiden officiating. Contributions to the Chapel Renovation at Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta in Kathryn Coe's honor will be accepted, 2375 Shallowford Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30345. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
