Mrs. Kathleen Simmons Widener, 90, went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 22, 2012 at her residence. She was born October 15, 1921 in Wilkes County to the late Charlie Richard Simmons and Eunice Edora Martin Simmons. She was a member of the former Bible Baptist Tabernacle. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring Mother and friend who will be missed by all. Her strong faith in her Lord carried her through her battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Edwin Widener, Sr.; a great-grandchild, Jackson Rooks; two sisters, Carol Adkins and Annie Gaither; two brothers, James and Lawrence Simmons. She is survived by her children, Brenda Hutchins (Jack), Mary Widener, Dewey Widener, Jr. (Ann), Shirley Robbins (Eddie), Sandra Byrd (Ralph), Melissa Widener; eight grandchildren, David, Amy, Andrea, Christina, Julie, Michael, Michelle, and Kelsey; eight great-grandchildren, Abigail, Desiree, Kyra, Gyllian, Ian, Phoebe, Chloe, and Matthew; three sisters, Irene Shore, Mary Carter, and Pat Neese; a special nephew, Larry D. Simmons; a special dear friend, Jean Leonard. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, June 25, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Jack Hutchins officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30pm until 8:30pm on Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice for the compassionate care that was given to their mother.
