Kathleen Eunice Millsaps Shouse, affectionally called Kat, Kathleen, Mama, My Sweet Mama, Mamaw, Grandma, and Aunt Kat, met our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face RUNNING into his loving arms, Monday, March 5, 2012. She was 88 years and 303 days young. Kat was reunited with her loving husband, Lee Shouse, her parents, Stella Saylor Millsaps and George Millsaps, her siblings, Mary Nell Millsaps, Dot Grubbs, Edith Hunter, G.L. Millsaps, and other relatives and friends that have gone before her. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Gaynell Nail and husband Ron, her son John Lee Shouse, Jr. and wife Cathy, her grandson, Gray Nail and wife Lisa, granddaughter Erica Nail and fiancé Luke McMahon, great-granddaughter, Kylie Nail, step grandson Willie Dixon, granddogs Zoey and Boots. She is also survived by her brother Bill Millsaps and wife Pat, sister-in-law Jeanette Millsaps along with very special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and their families, the Shouse family, many friends and her Beck's Baptist Church family. Kat was born May 7, 1923 in Greensboro, NC. At an early age she rode the train with her family and baby brother G.L. sitting on her lap to live in Asheville, NC. Kat walked to school crossing a foot bridge carrying her little pink lunch pail. She had lots of stories to tell about Tater Hill and Spivey Mt. After a few years the family moved to the Enon Community in Yadkin County to live with Kat's Grandma Saylor while a house was being built on their new farm in Pfafftown which they named Millbrook Farm. This is now a housing development named after the farm. While living there she met Lee at Old Town High School. They fell in love through their letters while Lee was serving in World War II. When Lee returned from the war he proposed to Kat on her birthday and they were married on Lee's birthday. Kat and Lee were married for 52 years. They centered their life around Beck's Baptist Church where Kat taught the little ones in Sunday School for over 35 years. On Saturday nights she lovingly hand traced each child's picture to color to go along with their Sunday School Lesson. Kat was a homemaker who made a cake every Friday (not from a cake mix). She will always be remembered for her black walnut cakes with caramel icing. Her family always looked forward to her 10 course holiday meals with homemade light rolls that would melt in your mouth. She loved to nurture big delicious tomatoes and piddle in flowers. But her GREATEST accomplishment was the loving care she gave her children, grandchildren and children she kept for family and friends. We will always be eternally grateful. On the 4th of July and Labor Day holidays Kat and her family enjoyed Millsaps reunions hosted by Edith and RA Hunter at Lake Hickory and Lake Norman. You would always find her hands in the dish pans. In their ""golden"" years Kat and Lee enjoyed going to Emerald Isle in the fall with friends Lucy and Charlie McAlexander and taking trips with the Prime Timers from church. Kat's sister-in-law, Ollie Mae Shouse was a faithful friend throughout the years especially after Lee passed. The family is very grateful for all the prayers, cards, and visits from family and friends while Kat was living at Wheatland Assisted Living in Hillsville, VA and ESPECIALLY the Staff who lovingly cared for her for eight years. The family would also like to thank Twin County Hospice, Galax, VA for all their comfort and support they gave Kathleen and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain View Bible Camp, 1000 Double Cabin Road, Dugspur, VA 24325. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 2:00PM Friday, March 9, 2012 at Beck's Baptist Church, 5505 Beck's Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 with Dr. Karl Minor officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
