Kathleen Marie VanHorn Groce

A wonderful Christian mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Mrs. Kathleen ""Kat"" VanHorn Groce, age 80 of Winston-Salem went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, June 3, 2012 at her daughter's home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Groce was born in Forsyth County, January 30, 1932 to Lester Leroy and Virginia Elizabeth Williams VanHorn. She was a lifelong member of Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and worked at McLean's Trucking for 22 years. Mrs. Groce was a very simple lady, and was an excellent cook. In addition to her parents Mrs. Groce was preceded in death by her husband, Charles ""Skeet"" Buford Groce. Mrs. Groce is survived by two daughters; Janet (Ivan) Richardson and Pam (Dean) Noah. Five grandchildren: Matthew (Melody) Oakley, Candice Currie, Brooke (Drew) Crawford, Brett (Zack) Cain and Travis Noah. Five great-grandchildren; Hunter Oakley, Chase Currie, Logan, Cameron, Mason Crawford and Leighton Cain. Funeral services for Mrs. Groce will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem by Rev. Tim Gammons and Mr. Matthew Oakley. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Woodland Baptist Church Building Fund, 1175 Bethania Rural Hall Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
