Mrs. Kathleen Potts Fender, 90, wife of John Fender for 68 years, passed away January 4, 2015 at Regency Care of Clemmons. She was born September 14, 1924 in Davie County to the late Luther Lee Potts and Sally Cline Potts. Mrs. Fender was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and was very involved in the Women's Circle and the Children's Department. She graduated from Shady Grove High School in Advance, NC. She was a former employee of P.H. Hanes Knitting Company and was an avid basketball player with the City League for Hanes. Mrs. Fender will always be remembered as a gracious and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Isam Potts and Luther Potts, and her sisters Elizabeth Potts and Rosa Potts Smith. She is survived by her husband, John Fender; her three daughters, Patricia Doyle, Priscilla Watson, and Pamela Stockert (James); five grandchildren, Melissa Boswell (William), Peggy Nuckolls (Chris), Christy Hammond (Corey), Jason Stockert (Brandy), and Rebecca Dickenson (Calvin); ten great-grandchildren; her sister, Mildred Tise and her two brothers, Julius Potts and Wesley Potts (Eloise). A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Halipilias and Jim Allred officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 4265 Ebert Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127. The family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers at Regency Care of Clemmons for their special care and compassion to Mrs. Fender.
