KAROLYN COOKE PULLEN, 94, finished the beautiful melody of her life on
September 6, 2021. Born August 2, 1927 in Hildebran, NC, to Finley and Lucy
Cooke, the fourth of eight children, Karolyn played basketball, softball, track,
high jump and field hockey and was an active athlete throughout her life. She
graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University with a degree in voice and piano and
taught elementary school in Danville, Virginia. Karolyn married the love of her
life, Tom Pullen, on June 24, 1950; and they raised six children. She was known
for extraordinary sewing and music skills, singing, directing and playing piano
and organ for church choirs in North Carolina and Virginia. She taught sewing to
Costa Rican women on a mission trip; and loved art, birds and reading. She was
a runner-up in the Ms. Senior Virginia Pageant; sang with the “Morning Glories”
group and enjoyed golf and bowling leagues in later years. Karolyn was
preceded in death by Tom, her husband of 71 years and five brothers and
sisters. She is survived by her children Tom (Debbie), Beth Hendershot
(Norman), Karolyn Stith (David), Jonathan (Ruby), Elaine Garrison (Mitch) and
David, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sister Mary Lou Hall
and brother Dr. Charles Cooke. Due to pandemic concerns, a private family
service will be held. Memorials may be sent to Trinity
United Methodist Church, 3819 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC
27104.
