J.W. Demby

Mr. J.W. Demby, 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015.

J.W. was born August 7, 1929 to Bob and Maggie Demby in Chesterfield, S.C. After moving to Winston-Salem, he laid steel for Baptist Hospital and then spent the remainder of his working career in textiles. In his free time, J.W. played guitar for the Cherokee Drifters and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He also loved to travel and made several trips out west. Spending time in his garden and his orchard were among his favorite things. A faithful member of Advent Moravian Church, J.W. served on the Board of Elders and helped with the youth fellowship, and was a member of the Senior Friends there as well as at Pine Chapel Moravian Church. In addition to his parents, J.W. was preceded in death by an infant brother and brothers, George and Fred Demby.

J.W. is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Louise Snyder Demby; daughter, Debbie Bluhm and husband Bobby; son, Rev. James Demby; brothers, Floyd and Paul Demby; several in-laws, nieces and nephews; and Tom ""Cat"".

Funeral services for J.W. will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 2 pm at Advent Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Tim Sapp and The Rt. Rev. Lane Sapp officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 6 - 8 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
