KERNERSVILLE-June Arlene Brown Watts , 75, wife, mother, ""Maw Maw"", and friend to many, died peacefully at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Tuesday May 3, 2011. She was born May 8, 1935 in Campbell Co., Virginia to the late George Washington and Essie Bryant Brown. June was a graduate of Walnut Cove High School. She retired in 1989 from Western Electric/AT&T with 30 years of service. She volunteered as the leader of the majorettes for Red Shield Boys Club little league program in the 1960's and as Christian Youth Fellowship leader at the former Bon Air Christian Church in Winston-Salem. She received a ""Volunteer of the Year Award"" for service to Carver Senior High School. She was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church in Kernersville where she was a member and teacher of the Loyal Wesley Sunday School Class. She was also a member of and traveled with the Older Adult Fellowship. She was the loving wife of the late Frank Leon Watts and devoted mother to Rev. Douglas Watts and wife Beverley of Kernersville, and Kathy Watts Brown of Walkertown, and former Son-in-law, Rick Brown of Dover, Pa. Affectionately known as ""Maw Maw"", she was the proud grandmother to Shanda Michele Knouse and Dana Kristene Brown (""Sam"" Betbeze) and great grandmother to Emiee Knouse, and Zane and Abigale Murray. She was a ""special American grandmother"" to Hilde Mangersnes, Kare (Andy) Steinsvik, and Elisabeth Stensland from Norway, and Helen Ekizean, Maria Westlund, Dr. David Piros, and Mattias Lysell from Sweden. Also surviving are her brother, Harold Brown (Lola) of Walnut Cove; brothers-in-law, Henry Watts (Janie) of Sandy Ridge and George Lee Watts (Sylvia) of Kernersville; sister-in-law Alma Alley (James) and Ruth B. Watts of Walnut Cove. She leaves a host of nieces and nephews, and special long time friends, Everette and Mary Jo Crisco and son Harold from Albemarle, NC, and special room-mate, Vicky Cremeans, whom she grew to love so much. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, James R. Brown; half brother, George Washington Brown, Jr.; half sister, Barbara Sue Watkins; and brother-in-law, James O. Watts. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church in Walkertown with Rev. Steve Autrey, Rev. Douglas Watts and Rev. Ellis Rouse officiating. The family will receive friends in the Sanctuary of the church from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rosebud Christian Church Cemetery in Walnut Cove. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund of Rosebud Christian Church in care of Jake Oakley, 4383 Dodgetown Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052 or Hospice of Winston-Salem at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family. The family would like to thank, Dr. Wright and Dr. Bain, staff and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at Wake Forest Baptist Health and the staff of Hospice for their loving care during the last days of her life.
