Mr. June Denny Key, 82, of Pfafftown, went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Surry County, the sixth child of ten to the late Elmer and Martha Nichols Key. He was a graduate of Franklin High School and a retiree of AT&T. Preceding Mr. Key in death along with his parents are five brothers, Bruce, Reece, Worth, Gene and Wade Key. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jewell Cullop Key; two sons, Denny Key, Sr. and wife Brenda of Tybee Island, Georgia and Terry Key and wife Debra of Pfafftown; three grandchildren, Michael Key of Kernersville, Denny Key, Jr. and wife Valerie of Yadkinville, Amanda Key Shore and husband Bradley of Boonville; three great-grandchildren, Charlsie Key, Parker and Elliott Shore; one brother, Frank Key of Mt. Airy; three sisters, Lottie Dix and husband Joe of Greensboro, Linda Pleasants and husband Gene of Raleigh and Betty Putnam of Greensboro; and many nieces and nephews. June was a very active member of Central Terrace United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. He was an usher and served on the Parsonage, Nominations and Mission Outreach Committees. He was a member of the Wesley Sunday School Class and Seniors Group (Dry Bones). He was well known for his help with Habitat for Humanity and devoted much of his time to the Lord through mission repair work. His passion in life was refinishing antique furniture. He and Jewell loved traveling and collecting unique items from the past. As a young man he loved playing baseball and basketball. He and Jewell were avid followers of the sons and grandchildren's careers in sports. He was a loving husband, Dad and favorite uncle and was known as Pee-Paw to his beloved grandchildren. He was most notorious for his infamous storytelling of the ""Old Days."" A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday August 8, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday before the service at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. He will be remembered for his compassion to all and his help to others, his faithful witness and thankfulness to his Lord for his many blessings.
