Mrs. June Jarvis Clore, 87, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at her home. June was born on June 4, 1930, in Mars Hill, NC, to Robert Glenn and Carrie Riddle Jarvis. After she graduated with honors from Walkertown High School in 1948, she married her first love, James O. Johnson. June retired from what was then Western Electric Co. after twenty years of service. She was a gifted and talented artist who shared those talents with family, friends, co-workers and the organizations to which she belonged. There was never a painting or decorating project that was too big or small for her to take on. She loved the challenge of creating something beautiful and special. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Matron of Old Town Chapter No. 355. She was also a 45 year member of the Order of the Amaranth, serving as its top state officer, PGRM, in 1987. She was one of the early advocates for the adoption of their Diabetes Research Project, and worked hard to secure funds for this worthy cause. Over her lifetime, she was an active member of Salem Baptist, New Philadelphia and Union Cross Moravian Church. After suffering a stroke in 2011, she came to live with her daughter. With the help and caring love of Mary Lee Blythe, who was like another daughter to her, and Hospice, she was able to remain at home until her death. The family was also assisted by a wonderful former neighbor, Dianne Courtney, who always came whenever help was needed. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ashby Lewis Clore, Jr.; sister, Shirley Beshears; and only nephew, Calvin Taylor Westmoreland Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Johnson of Winston-Salem; stepson, John Ashby Clore (wife Cindy) of Winston-Salem; niece, Wendy Westmoreland of California; and best feline friend, Timothy. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, March 5, 2018, at 1:00 PM, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, with Rev. Russ Williams and Rev. Jack Nance officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Amaranth Diabetes Research Project, with checks being made to the Grand Court of N.C. and sent to Mrs. Elizabeth Pierce, 190 Queens Ct. Clemmons, NC 27012, or Mountain Valley Hospice, 320 W. Maple St. Yadkinville, NC 27055.
