Julius Dwight ""Moe"" Kirby, 85, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on September 15, 1922, in Lexington, NC, to Charles Pleasant Kirby and Lola Griffin Kirby. He spent most of his life in Winston-Salem. He had a 40 year career with the US Postal Service, retiring in 1980, and continued to work part-time for many years afterwards at Regal Ford Auto Dealership. He was an Army Veteran having served in both WWII and the Korean War and attained the rank of Corporal. He was a long standing member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church and Bona Vita Sunday School Class as long as his health permitted. He was an avid reader, a woodworking craftsman and a talented artist. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sarah B. Kirby; his son, Charles L. Kirby and his wife Rebecca; his daughter Ellen K. Gentle and beloved granddaughter, Olivia M. Kirby. He is also survived by his nephew, Gary Myers and his wife Shelby of Atlanta, GA. and his niece, Detsy Payne and her husband Larry of Lexington. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Worth Green, Rev. Dr. David A. Marcus, Jr. and The Right Rev. Bob Yost officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
