Mrs. Julia Ellen Landis Hodgson, 89 of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 10, 1921 in McDowell Co., NC to the late Joseph Benjamin and Zonia Ellington Landis. Mrs. Hodgson was a faithful and active member of Central Terrace United Methodist Church since 1951 where she was involved with the Wesley Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and was past chairwoman of the Communion Committee. Mrs. Hodgson was a retired department manager of Thalhimers Department Store of Winston-Salem. She was a homemaker and an artist, especially enjoying painting, gardening, and cooking. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Preceding her in death was her husband, David Wesley Hodgson; three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are a daughter, Hilda Sitton and husband Howard of Hendersonville, NC; daughter, Mary H. Hutchins and husband Roy III of Bowling Green, Kentucky; son, David Brent Hodgson and wife Cathy of Alpharetta, GA; four grandchildren, Janice Sitton, Julie Williams, Roy Hutchins IV, and Brent Wesley Hodgson; three great-grandchildren, Scott Williams, Mae Hutchins, and Josie Hutchins; also surviving are two sisters, Georgia Melton and Barbara Schnitzler and a brother, Wayne Landis. A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, November 15, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Robert T. McLawhorn officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
