Julia Hester Sykes Angell

Julia Hester Sykes Angell, 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away in her sleep December 30, 2012 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born June 9, 1921 in Wilkes County, NC, the daughter of Charlie and Effie Sykes. Mrs. Angell was a homemaker who enjoyed drawing and painting. She was a member of Urban Street/Vernon Forest Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Grover Franklin Angell in 2007; her parents; and three brothers, Vernon Sykes, Paul Sykes, and Ralph Sykes, all of Broadway, NC. She is survived by her sons, Mickey (Beverly) Angell, and Terry Angell; and grandchildren, Heather Angell, Aaron (Misty) Angell, Melanie (Myron) Draughon, and Carla (Terry) Atwood. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 4 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel in Winston-Salem. Entombment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Clemmons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday night, January 3 from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the donor's choice in her memory. The family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks at Forsyth for the loving care given to her for the past five years following a stroke.
