KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Judith “Judy” Starnes Medlin Simpson, 83, of Kernersville, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Born in Mecklenburg County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Starnes of Indian Trail, NC. Judy was preceded in death by her first husband, Sanford “Sandy” Medlin in 1983; and her brother, Dwayne Starnes in 2022. Surviving are her husband, Brinkley “Tiny” Simpson, of Kernersville, NC; her daughter, Wendi Uselton Spraker, of Danbury, NC; her stepdaughter, Fran Simpson Stover (Michael), of Winston Salem, NC; and grandchildren, Jason Uselton (Shelby) of Germanton, NC; Sarah Blackwell (Richard), of Rural Hall, NC; and Emily Sanford “Sandy” Uselton, of Mt. Airy, NC. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Jason Uselton, Brianna Uselton, Weston Uselton and Clifton Shaw, as well as sister-in-laws, Carolyn Starnes (Jeff and Leslie); and Johnnie Lou Simpson.
Judy graduated from Indian Trail High School and attended Appalachian State College as well as Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She was retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System as a teacher for gifted students. She was an excellent seamstress who also taught piano, loved gardening, antique shopping, traveling, tractor shows with Tiny and attending Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville.
The family wishes to acknowledge the faithful care shown to Judy during her illness, especially members of Triad Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School class; Charlotte Offerdahl and “Pippa”; Mayor Janet Whitt of Danbury, NC; the staff of Walnut Ridge Assisted Living in Walnut Cove, NC; Mountain Valley Hospice and the staff of the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC, including Pastor Brian Chilton.
A memorial service to honor Judy will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Rob Decker officiating. The family will receive friends afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local Hospice facilities or to Triad Baptist Church, 1175 S. Main St, Kernersville, NC 27284.
