Mrs. Judith “Judy” Poindexter Shutt, 82, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021, at her home in Winston-Salem, NC.  Judith was born on October 21, 1938, in Orlando, Florida, to the late George Herman Poindexter and Josephine Bailey Poindexter.  Judith grew up in Winston-Salem, where she graduated from Mineral Springs High School and was proud to be a part of the marching band as a majorette. She went on to earn her degree in education from Appalachian State University and was a dedicated teacher to students with special education needs in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System for 30 years. During that time, Judith met and married her late husband, Kenneth R. Shutt. With their daughter Lisa, they loved traveling to places like Williamsburg, Virginia, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where they created many special memories. Judith and Kenneth shared a loving and devoted marriage until his passing in 1995 of ALS.  She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and was an avid reader. Judith was also an active member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, participating in the communion committee among many other activities. She was also involved in Delta Kappa Gamma, the professional society for women educators.  Judith is survived by her daughter, Lisa Nitz and husband, Jim of Winston-Salem; granddaughters, Bailey Nitz, Jamie Nitz, Elizabeth Vlasicak and husband Jim, Catherine Nitz and Shane Gillett, and Amelia Kennedy and husband Richard; great-grandson, Henry Vlasicak; sister, Sarah Jetton of Winston-Salem; nephew, Rick Jetton and wife, Jennifer; niece, Amy Styers and husband Jeff; nephew, Tommy Shelton and wife Renee; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Judith was preceded in death by her sister, Ellen Shelton, and brother-in-law, Paul Shelton.  A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Forsyth Memorial Park and will be officiated by Pastor Bob Richardson of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, where Judith and her family have attended church since the 1970s.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and The ALS Association North Carolina Chapter, 4 N Blount St. #200, Raleigh, NC 27601.  Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Shutt.
