Judith "Judy" Ann Chilton Melton

Judy Chilton Melton was born on March 22, 1944, in Pilot Mountain, NC, to Dewey Elbert Chilton and Bertha Jessup Chilton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Jim” Melton, and her grandson, Austin Eli Melton. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Judy dedicated her life to family and the simple joys of home. She retired from the Wake Forest Athletic Department’s Deacon Club, but her true passion was found in her garden. An accomplished home gardener, she took great pride in growing flowers and vegetables, always eager to share her bounty with neighbors, friends, and loved ones. Judy believed in the power of family and the importance of creating a home where everyone had a place at the table. Her kitchen, though small, was the heart of countless gatherings, filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals and the warmth of shared memories. To her, supper wasn’t complete without a meat, two vegetables, and either biscuits or cornbread. Her homemade biscuits and gravy, along with vegetables canned from her garden, were cherished by all who had the pleasure of sitting at her table. Birthdays, graduations, showers, reunions, and holidays—her home was always the setting for love and celebration. Judy is survived by her three children: Sherri Woodall (Chris), Ricky Melton (Pam), and Dwayne Melton (Anna); four grandchildren: Erin Garman (Mike), Ryan Melton (Katie), Jessica Melton, and Tyler Melton; and five great-grandchildren: Madison Rissew, Reid Melton, Oliver Garman, Rylee Melton, and Daniel Garman. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Wake Forest Baptist Atrium Health for their compassionate care and support. Judy’s love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family will forever be cherished and remembered. Visitation will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday March 19, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00PM with Rev. Clark Chilton officiating. Burial will follow at Brims Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Pilot Mountain.
