Beloved wife and mother Joyce Starr Williams Pitts went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus September 4, 2009 after a very brave battle against brain cancer. She was born August 21, 1944 in Durham, NC to Luna Mae Hocutt Rudd and Zelber Chandler Rudd, Jr. She is Survived by her husband of 47 years James H. Pitts, Jr. also two sons David Alan Pitts of Jacksonville FL and Jeffery Daniel Pitts of Winston-Salem. One brother Royal Graham Williams, Jr. Preceded in death her father, Zelber Chandler Rudd, Jr. Step-father Royal Graham William, Sr., one niece Lindsay Marie Williams, All maternal and paternal grandparents and also mother and father-in-law. After marriage August 4, 1962 and the birth of her two sons in 1965 and 1968 she attended Gardner Webb College and received her Bachelor of Science Registered Nurse Degree. She worked at North Carolina Baptist Hospital 9th Reynolds Oncology floor for ten years. Went to the Outpatient Department as Nurse Supervisor for five years. She was recruited by the Medical Center to form and begin (Health on Call) a referral service of which she managed for ten years until she retired in 2001 having service of twenty five years with Baptist Hospital. Family visitation will be Tuesday evening September 8, 2009 from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. The funeral service will follow at Woodland Baptist Church 3665 Patterson Ave. Winston-Salem, NC where they were members for 32 years both having been ""SAVED"" by the ""GRACE"" of GOD. Pastor Tim Gammons will officiate the service and special songs she loved will be sung. Pallbearers will be provided by her husband's Sunday School Class (The Ambassadors) Joyce's class (The Faithful Followers) will sit with the family for they are indeed family. Entombment will be Wednesday morning September 9, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Walkertown, NC. She will be missed more than words can say for her (Good Heart) and (Kindness) to others, thinking of others always before herself. She was a great mother, daughter, sister and even greater wife. Memorial gifts given in her memory can be given to the Woodland Baptist Church Building Fund. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall is serving the Pitts family.
