Joyce Ann Gibbs

Mrs. Joyce Ann Stephenson Gibbs, age 87 of Bermuda Village, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Sticht Center.  She was born May 12, 1936 in Portsmouth, OH to the late Elwood Stephenson and “Dolly” Gertrude McDavid Stephenson.  She is survived by David Gibbs, her husband of 68 years, and two daughters, Jennifer Hanes (Doug) of Advance and Laura Jones (Steve) of Dacula, GA. Affectionately known as “MeeMaw”, Joyce had four grandchildren: Sela and Aven Jones and Dylan and Jonathan Hanes. As a young married couple they lived in several different places before settling in Columbus, Ohio and then Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The family moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1979 where Joyce enjoyed gardening, organizing neighborhood events, and serving as an officer in the Pickwick Garden Club. Following the retirement of her husband, the couple enjoyed many happy years in Connestee Falls in Brevard, North Carolina. Throughout her life she loved sewing and quilting and donated hundreds of blankets to the Linus Quilt Project. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13th at 4 PM at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel by Rev. Elizabeth Horton.  The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Linus Quilt Project at www.projectlinus.org. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.
