Joyce Ann Atkins Callis

Mrs. Joyce Ann Atkins Callis, 63, passed away unexpectedly at her home in King on October 21, 2010. She was born in Surry Co. on March 19, 1947 to Aubrey Atkins and the late Carrie Lee Simpson Atkins. Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who will be missed deeply by all who knew her. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall and was also a member of the singles group at Woodland. Joyce loved her dogs and growing and arranging flowers. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her son, Chris Schlotfeldt and a granddaughter, Megan Easter. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Cindy Schlotfeldt Tilley of King, a granddaughter, Candace Fann and husband Bobby of Jacksonville, NC, her father, Aubrey Atkins of Mt. Airy, one sister, Patty Johnson and husband Wayne of Rural Hall, two brothers, Bobby Atkins and wife Kay of King and Mike Atkins and wife Dawn of Advance, special aunts and uncles, Lou Ray and Garnett Atkins of King, Roger Atkins of Rural Hall and Sally Key of Welcome and several special nieces and nephews. Joyce is also survived by her two loving and faithful companions, Rose and Gracie. Funeral services for Joyce will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Woodland Baptist Church in Rural Hall with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 on Sunday prior to the service at Woodland Baptist Church.
