Joy Lois Young, 59, loving wife, mother, and daughter, passed away on October 9, 2015. She was born in Forsyth County on July 29, 1956, to Lois Powers and the late Henry Wesley Powers, Jr.
She is survived by her family including her beloved husband, Kerley Young; her dear mother, Lois Powers; three cherished daughters, Renee Butner, Ashley Baker, and Erica Butner; two precious granddaughters, Anna Baker and Veronica Baker; treasured nephew, Wesley Brewer; and extraordinary family friend, Teena ""Twigs"" Graveline.
She was preceded in death by her sister, the late Charm Brewer.
The light of Christ radiated from Joy's generous and loving spirit, compassion for those in need, devotion to her family and dedication to church ministries. She was an active member of Harvest International Church in Winston-Salem. In her circle of friends, family, and church community she will be remembered lovingly as ""the encourager!""
Among her passions was being a loving homemaker and creating a wonderful home life for her family. She devoted herself to working on her numerous ministry activities. In her leisure time she enjoyed crafting and vacationing at the beach.
Joy will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her incredible love for others will always remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
A celebration of Joy Young's life will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel located at 3315 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC. Visitation will immediately follow the service. Burial will be on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 11:00 am at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC.
