Mrs. Joy Jean Sexton Reich, 83, of Winston-Salem, NC, entered into the more immediate presence of the Lord on November 17, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
Joy was born on April 9, 1940, to the late John Edgar Sexton and Leasel Small Sexton in Forsyth County, NC.
In her earlier years, Joy attended Griffith School where she would eventually meet Samuel Reich. The two became high school sweethearts and created a loving family of their own, living many wonderful years together. Joy and Sam were devoted members of Friedberg Moravian Church, where Joy served as both a diener and a member of the Women’s Fellowship, giving many years of devotion to the ministry by serving in many roles and capacities. She was also highly dedicated to her children, whom she dearly loved, never missing an opportunity to be present in their lives. Joy served as both a Cub Scout leader as well as a Girl Scout leader, and an active member of the PTA. She also gave 21 dedicated years working in Old Salem, where she received loving kinship and support from her many dear friends over the years.
In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in passing by her husband, Samuel Linville Reich.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Philip (Tara) Reich; daughters, Anna Baker and Catherine (James) Adams; grandchildren, Michael Reich, Laura Reich, Mitchell Fraley, Elliott Lawson, Gabby Davis, Alex Davis, Tripp Baker and Cameron Baker; five great-grandchildren; brother, John Sexton Jr.; niece, Debbie (Michael) Miles and their son, Jay (Devin) Miles; and nephew, John Sexton III.
A funeral service for Joy will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will immediately follow in the church graveyard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Friedberg Moravian Church, 2178 Friedberg Church Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
