Joy Ann Bolling

Joy Ann Pegram Bolling, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Rockingham County on April 4, 1938, to the late Richard Harvey and Beulah Swain Pegram. Joy, in every sense of the word, embodied her name. She brought immeasurable happiness to those who had the opportunity to meet her. Joy was incredibly intelligent and opinionated and was not afraid to share her values and beliefs with those around her. In addition to this spunky, sassy, side of her, Joy cared about those around her, many times more than herself. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 51 years, David. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and loved to share family anecdotes any chance she could get. Joy was also very fond of her five sons-in-law, all of which held the title of “Favorite son-in-law”, depending on which was in the closest proximity to her when she said it. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Joy is preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Bolling; her son, Richard Van Bolling; as well as a granddaughter, Anna Nicole Black.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Deborah Rierson (husband, Joe), Sharon Burleson (husband, Danny), Betty Pearman (husband, Barry), Angela Black (husband, Tim), and Dolores Willey (husband, Kenny); thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; as well as many other extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Bethel Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, with Pastor Charmaigne Van Rooyen officiating, and a visitation following the service in the church. Inurnment will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Waughtown Cemetery.
