KERNERSVILLE-Josie Elvirah Vanderburg Martin, 95, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Britthaven of Kernersville. She was born January 18, 1914 in Forsyth Co. to the late Henry Levi and Martha Smith Vanderburg. Josie was a devout Seventh-day Adventist her entire life. She retired from Royal Cake Co. in 1964 and later worked as a seamstress. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome M. Martin; three sisters; two brothers; and a son in-law, Kelly Adams. Surviving are two daughters, Gale Lyndon (Bob) of Wilmington, Ima Jean Adams of Kernersville; four grandchildren, Cynthia Blevins (Mitch), Ellen Adams and David Phumphery all of Greensboro, Chris Porter (Ami) of Huntersville, and Paula Carr (Tony) of Raleigh; one great-grandson, Michael Blevins of Greensboro. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Kernersville Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the old church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 pm prior to the service at the church. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Martin family.
