Josie Ann 'Jo Ann' Swaim Gunnell

KERNERSVILLE - Ms. Josie 'JoAnn' Swaim Gunnell, 75, died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. Josie was born March 5, 1937 in Guilford County to the late Vance Swaim and Virginia Toomes Swaim Bowman. She enjoyed her career as a beautician and attended Kernersville Wesleyan Church. Josie was very active in the VFW Lady's Auxiliary serving as the Canteen Manager. In addition to her parents, Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Gunnell and one brother, Bill Swaim. Surviving are her loving friend, Donnie Redmon; five children, Ricky Burkhart (Mary Ann) of Lamar, SC; Deborah Lebow (Jim) of Asheboro; Randy Burkhart of Texas; Ron Burkhart (Ann) of Summerville, SC; and Todd Burkhart (Donna) of High Point; three sisters, Margie Christain of Greensboro; Ruth Waller (Carl) of Pleasant Garden; Vickey Rivenburg (Mickey) of Mayodan; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Phil Hulen and Rev. Don Martin officiating.
