Josey Eva Turman Chappell

Mrs. Josey Eva Turman Chappell, 89, of 930 Magnolia Street., died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at her home. She was the middle of five children, born on February 10, 1920, to Peter Hill Turman and Viola Link Turman in Madison Heights, VA. She graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1937 and attended Randolph-Macon Woman's college from 1937-1939. She married in 1942 Lewis Doyle Chappell, who died in 1988. She worked for Western Electric Company from 1956 until 1983 when she retired. She was an active member of Ardmore Moravian Church where she has been a member of the Senior Friends, the Women's Fellowship, and has served on the board of the Provincial Senior Friends. She was a charter member of the Shallow Ford Falls Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also worked as a Girl Scout troop leader and as a volunteer at Salemtowne Retirement Community. She is survived by her son, Robert K. Chappell of Winston-Salem; her daughter, Martha Jo Bauman and husband, John of Kenner, LA; two grandsons, Brian Chappell of Carry, NC and 2LT Adam Chappell of Ft. Benning, GA; one granddaughter, LTC Denise M. Brown of Ft. Hood, TX; two great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. Josey was predeceased by her sisters, Martha Dominick, Charity Vest, Leirona Barron and her brother, George Turman all of Virginia. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 15 from 3:00 until 5:00 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. There will be a graveside service Monday, February 16 at God's Acre in Old Salem at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jon Boling officiating.
