Mrs. Josephine Julia O’Gallagher Maxwell Golen, 79, passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 22, 2024. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Edward Oswald O’Gallagher and Genevieve Sledzeski O’Gallagher. Josephine graduated High School from St. Thomas Aquinas. She got her bachelor’s in education from Barry University and later went on to get her master’s degree in Reading from Nova Southeastern University. She was an educator and taught for 38 years at several schools in South Florida including Pioneer Middle School, Lyons Creek Middle School, and St. Stephen’s Catholic School. She loved learning, reading, traveling and most of all her five grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Maxwell, one brother Edward O’Gallagher, and two sisters; Genevieve Jones and Shirley O’Gallagher. Josephine is survived by her husband of 28 years James “Jim” Edward Golen, two children; Patrick Maxwell (Christy), and Michael Maxwell (Sarah), five grandchildren; Thomas, Scott, Sophia, Abigale and Joseph Maxwell, and two sisters-in-laws; Maureen Weber and Irene O’Gallagher. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday April 28, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. The family will receive friends an hour prior at the funeral home.
