Joseph Marion Taylor, Jr.

Winston Salem- The Reverend Joseph Marion Taylor, Jr. died January 24, 2010. He was a resident at the Fitzgerald Health Center of the Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born June 21, 1921 to the late Joseph Marion Taylor, Sr and Maude Bailey Taylor of Statesville, N.C. He graduated from Cool Spring High School and Mitchell College. He received an A. B. Degree from High Point University and attended summer school at Emory University. Reverend Taylor served as a United Methodist Minister in the Western North Carolina Conference for over 60 years. Following his retirement he continued to assist churches in raising funds for new sanctuaries, renovations, and church budgets in the Western North Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia United Methodist conferences. He was a member of the Hibriten Masonic Lodge in Lenoir, N. C. for over fifty years. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Franklin Taylor and two infant daughters, Betty Jo and Mary Carolyn Taylor. He is survived by his wife of fifty nine years Millison Bryant Taylor; a daughter, Marian Yvonne Dickens of Kernersville; a son Timothy Hayes Taylor and daughter-in-law Judy of Sharpsburg, Georgia; four grand children, James Matthew Dickens, Benjamin Andrew Taylor, Jennifer Lauren Stewart, Jacob Douglas Stewart; and two grand-dogs Gracie Lou and Bailey. The memorial service has been rescheduled for 3:30 pm Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, Kernersville, N.C . Family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Taylor family. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Arbor Acres for their kindness and loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials may be made to the Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community designated to the Resident's Fund. 1240 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, N.
