Mr. Joseph Lee Shanks, Jr., 72, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, April 8, 2011 at his home. Mr. Shanks was born in Davidson County, TN on July 20, 1938 to John William and Myrtle Dews Shanks. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Chapel. Mr. Shanks was a true humanitarian who chose to donate his body to science for the advancement of others. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Louise Shanks, and a son, Scott Shanks. Mr. Shanks is survived by a daughter-in-law, Andrea Shanks of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Brittney and Victoria Shanks; a brother, William Shanks and wife Caroline of Daytona Beach, FL; a sister Judy Schenk and husband Jim of Nashville, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
