Mr. Joseph Edward Saxon, 77 of Winston-Salem, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Saxon was born June 21, 1931 in Forsyth County, a son of the late Leo Saxon and the late Loyce Jenkins Saxon. He was a proud US Marine Corp. veteran who was a POW for 3 years during the Korean War. Mr. Saxon was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. He retired from David E. Day Paint Contractors with over 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Spear Saxon, children, Joseph Saxon, Jr and wife Rhuona, Kim Woosley and husband Steve, and David Saxon, step son, Dennis Spear, grandchildren, Tara Sink and husband Wesley, Savannah Saxon, Brandon Saxon, Kayla Saxon, Brooke Spear, and Casey Spear, great-grandchildren, McKenna Sink and Colson Sink, brother, Leo Saxon. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 6-8 Wednesday at the funeral home.
