Jonah Charles Hammett

On May 8, 2014, Jonah Charles Hammett, stepped up to the plate one last time. The last two years life had thrown him many curve balls and he battled off those pitches fearlessly and stayed strong at the plate. Early in the morning on May 8th, Jonah was thrown a final pitch and he knocked it outta the park! A 14 year old with a smile that infectiously lit up a room, is now healed. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him but we have peace because we know that he is now whole and running the streets of Heaven with his Savior. Jonah was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and a student at Meadowlark Middle School. Along with a strong faith, he had a passion for family, friends, dirt bikes, all things camo and baseball. Jonah is survived by his mother and father, Tom and Amy Hammett of Lewisville, brother Jeremy and wife Ali Hammett of Winston-Salem, and sister Jordan Hammett of Lewisville. He is also survived by his grandparents Frances Hammett of Chesnee, SC and Charles and Beth Cabaniss of Shelby, NC. Aunts and Uncles Rick and Anne Hammett of Houston, TX, Scott and Donna Jolley of Lincolnton, NC, and Doug and Jada Clay of Fallston, NC, as well as numerous special cousins and friends. The family will receive friends at Center Grove Baptist Church in Clemmons, NC on Sunday, May 11, from 4:00-7:00 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at Center Grove Baptist Church on May 12, at 4:00 pm with burial to follow. Memorials may be made to the Youth Program at Center Grove Baptist Church. The Hammett family would like to say a special thank you to Jonah's team at Brenner Children's Hospital and Lewisville Family Medical for their kindness and compassion while caring for Jonah. Additionally, they wish to express their gratitude to their church, baseball families and community for their overflowing love and support during this journey. God is good!
