Jon Booher

Jon Booher was born July 29, 1942, in Glen Dale, lived in Moundsville, West Virginia, the son of the late Wilford J. and Virginia Hughes Booher also of Moundsville. He passed away Monday, February 3, 2025, at his home in Oak Valley in Winston-Salem, NC. 

Soon after graduating from Moundsville High School, Jon moved to Pasadena, CA, where he soon went to work for The Pasadena Foundation for Medical Research. He worked his way through college and became proficient in tissue culture. He became the first to demonstrate that isolated nerve cells can be grown and survive without the need of glial cells. He subsequently, received his Doctorate Degree with Honors in Neurochemistry from Pasteur University in Strasburg, France. He then completed a two-year post doctorate at the University of California San Diego. In 1997, Jon went to work for Edwards Laboratories in Irvine, CA. In 2002, he started his own consulting business, Booher and Associates, to provide his FDA experience to small and medium sized businesses in Orange County, California. 

He married Linda Gai (Sharp) Booher in Pasadena, CA on October 12, 1974. They have one daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Brooke Booher and a granddaughter, Bristol Avery Beeson of Clemmons, NC. In 2006, Jon moved the family to Winston-Salem, NC and retired to Oak Valley, NC. 

Jon was preceded in death by his parents; and two older brothers, Timothy Booher and Hughes Booher. He is survived by his loving wife and daughter; nephew, Daniel Ross Booher of Parker, Colorado; and nieces, Rebecca (Becky) Booher of Jackson, Oregon, Jennifer Booher of Cincinnati, OH, and Bethanie Booher of Charleston, W. VA. There will be no formal services held at this time. 

Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is serving the family of Dr. Booher.
